Panthers beat Hurricanes 1-0 in overtime
NHL.com reports Forsling's late overtime goal and Markstrom's 15-save shutout.
Florida beat Carolina 1-0 in overtime in their season opener, according to NHL.com's September 30 report. The game was played in Raleigh on September 29.
The league account says Gustav Forsling scored with 4.3 seconds remaining in overtime. Jacob Markstrom made 15 saves for the shutout. A goaltender's save count and the final goal tally are different measures of the same game.
The report also notes Aleksander Barkov's return after missing the preceding season and Brady Tkachuk's Florida debut. Those are participation facts in the league account, not a prediction about either player's full-season performance.
An overtime victory is a completed result, but it does not decide the standings at the end of a season.
