Pakistan reach Asian Games semi-finals after washout
PCB says higher ICC ranking decided advancement after no play against Hong Kong.
Pakistan advanced to the men's Asian Games cricket semi-finals after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Nisshin on September 28. PCB's official release attributes the abandonment to persistent rain.
The Sahibzada Farhan-led team progressed because of its higher ICC ranking under the tournament playing conditions. This was advancement without play, not a victory by runs or wickets and not an innings with a score to reconstruct.
PCB's release listed both semi-finals for October 1 at the same venue. At the time of that announcement, Pakistan's next opponent was still described as the winner of the scheduled Bangladesh-Malaysia quarter-final. This article does not turn that older pending-opponent wording into a new confirmed result.
The distinction matters when checking knockout brackets after bad weather: a team can move forward while the scorecard correctly says no play. For changing fixture details use the current tournament source, rather than treating this September 28 release as a live schedule.
