Commentary

  • Two wins out of two and Mike Hesson's Pakistan team is on a roll. They've a break now with England and Sri Lanka taking on each other in Rawalpindi's final match of the tri-series. That's on the 22nd and we'll be back for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
  • Shaheen Afridi | Pakistan Captain - (If he was happy with the score) I think it was really good, the way Hasan and Arafat batted, then Faheem came in and he batted. I think it's a good sign for us, but we also need the top order to post a good score. (When asked if this was a complete performance) As a team, we did some good things, but we need to improve more. Our preparation for the World Cup, how we built this team, the way our fast bowlers bowled, and then Arafat and Naseem as well—I think it was a good sign for us. (On the decision to bring back pacers against a new batter) We just feel that when a new batter comes in, let's use some bouncers and then land balls; those are the thoughts, and then we just deliver. (On Arafat Minhas) I think he's a very good talent. He was mentioned before. He's not just a bowling all-rounder or a batting all-rounder; he is a proper all-rounder. I think the way he's started his innings in batting and then delivering in bowling, it's good for us, for the Pakistan team, and hopefully he'll deliver in many more games.
  • Harry Brook | England Captain - (On the target) We were quite happy with 300. We thought they were probably slightly under par. It got dewy, as we thought it would do, but yeah, we were pretty happy at halfway. (Not capitalising on the start that Banton and Duckett provided them) Yeah, that was the story of the innings, really. We thought Bants and Ducky set the tone beautifully to nearly get a hundred partnership, and then it was just a case of losing too many wickets in clumps. We couldn't really string any partnerships together and, yeah, we ended up on the wrong side. (On the importance of getting back to winning ways) Definitely, you always want to win, don't you? We've spoken a lot about rotation of strike through the middle, but I think we were probably a little bit too careful against the spinners, especially. We can probably put them under a little bit more pressure in stages, and, yeah, we've got tonight to talk about it and tomorrow and bounce back better on Thursday.
  • Arafat Minhas | Player of the Match - I kept my plans very simple. In the first match, there wasn't much help for the spinners, but I backed my plans. Today, the pitch was a little slow, so I think I targeted good areas and received some help, which benefited me. (About his bowling) Variations are very important because if you keep bowling in one area, the spinner doesn't get much advantage. But when you vary your pace and bowl both spin and the arm ball, it deceives the batsman. I think that is very important, and I have worked on it as well, which helped me today. (On his batting) When I went in to bat, a very important partnership was needed. Hassan and I discussed taking this partnership deep. We aimed to add as many runs as possible because that would benefit us and allow us to cover things at the end, as both of us had that strength. Hassan was batting well, maintaining his flow and intent, while I supported him. But when he got out, I took charge and tried to bat till the end. That benefited us, and we managed to score 300.
  • 20:24 Local Time, 15:24 GMT, 20:54 IST: A chase that started so brightly has ended in complete disaster for England. Ben Duckett (45) and Tom Banton (57) added 91 at better than run-a-ball. The tourists were cruising until the former top-edged a pull off Haris Rauf. It then became a slide as Arafat Minhas came to bowl. Having already made a 50 with the bat, he took that confidence to the ball and simply outclassed the Englishmen. Banton pulled a short ball to mid-wicket, Harry Brook was left surprised by the turn which opened him up completely, Jordon Cox was trapped in front. Jamie Overton and Will Jacks holed out while Adil Rashid was also trapped in front. In between, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf gave their team the advantage by dismissing Joe Root and Sam Curran. It was a total team effort and Pakistan have taken a big step towards reaching the October 31st final. Stay tuned for the presentations..
  • 38.4: Arafat Minhas to Sonny Baker, out Gus Atkinson Run Out!! 1 run completed. A direct hit from Arafat Minhas and think Gus Atkinson is OUT - the 3rd umpire isn't needed and Pakistan win by 87 runs. An awful mix-up draws curtains on the game for England. Was tossed up on middle and drifted onto the pads - flicked in front of square on the on-side and they completed the first run. The fun then started - Gus Atkinson was rushing back for the second, Sonny Baker started and then turned back, the throw was at the bowler's end. Minhas grabbed and dropped the ball, Gus Atkinson tried to rush back - but Minhas recovered quickly, collected the ball and threw down the stumps at the striker's end, catching the batter well short. Gus Atkinson run out (Arafat Minhas) 7(5) [4s-1]
  • Arafat Minhas to Sonny Baker, THATS OUT!! Run Out!!

  • 38.3: Arafat Minhas to Sonny Baker, no run, tossed up on middle and leg, defended back at the bowler
  • A slip and a leg slip for the hat-trick ball
  • Sonny Baker, right handed bat, comes to the crease
  • 38.2: Arafat Minhas to Adil Rashid, out Lbw!! That looks straight and Minhas has his 6th wicket. Adil Rashid was walking back to the pavilion, but he then turns around and decides to chance his luck. This looked plumb though - tossed up and sliding into the right-hander - Rashid pressed forward and then played down the wrong line, struck bang in front of middle and on the knee-roll. No bat and we're through to ball-tracking: It's hitting the top of middle and leg - three reds and Sharfuddoula Saikat's original call stays. Minhas finds himself on a hat-trick now. Adil Rashid lbw b Arafat Minhas 0(1)
  • Arafat Minhas to Adil Rashid, THATS OUT!! Lbw!!
  • Adil Rashid, right handed bat, comes to the crease
  • 38.1: Arafat Minhas to Will Jacks, out Caught by Shaheen Afridi!! Five wickets for Minhas and he's on cloud nine - dropped short and Jacks swivelled across on the pull, but it's not short enough - no elevation as the ball hit high on the bat and it's a simple catch for the Pakistani captain at mid-wicket. A 50 earlier in the day and he now has 5 wickets as well. Will Jacks c Shaheen Afridi b Arafat Minhas 19(24) [4s-1 6s-1]
  • Arafat Minhas to Will Jacks, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
  • 37.6: Shaheen Afridi to Will Jacks, 1 run, short and into the right-hander - Will Jacks gets on top of the bounce and pulls it past square leg for a single
  • 37.5: Shaheen Afridi to Gus Atkinson, 1 run, on a good length and well wide of off - Atkinson slashes and gets a thick outside edge to third man
  • 37.4: Shaheen Afridi to Gus Atkinson, no run, very full from Shaheen - Atkinson jams the bat down and squeezes it to the on-side
  • 37.3: Shaheen Afridi to Will Jacks, 1 run, on a good length and just outside off - dropped to the left of cover-point for a quick single
