Commentary

  • 23:55 Local Time, 10:55 GMT, 16:25 IST: With a convincing win, New Zealand have pulled one match back in the 5-match series. For once, the Indians failed to understand the ground's dimensions and paid the ultimate price. The bowlers struggled to find their line and length, allowing Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell to enjoy themselves. While chasing 259, India lost two wickets in the first over and were never in the race from there on. Abhishek and Shreyas Iyer got a start, but the big chase required them to take risks. They took those risks and failed. The visitors lost half their side inside the first 10 overs and the writing was on the wall. A 87-run loss - a big one in the context of the series - and the home team will be chuffed with the eventual result. Presentations coming up shortly..
  • 19.6: Nathan Smith to Prince Yadav, no run, banged in short and at the right-hander - Prince swipes across the line and misses
  • 19.5: Nathan Smith to Prince Yadav, SIX, thumped, back of a length and at the stumps, Prince backs away and then flat-bats it over the bowler's head, slightly high on the bat, but the short boundary helps his cause
  • 19.4: Nathan Smith to Mayank Yadav, 1 run, on a good length and angling back into the right-hander - Mayank backs away and gets an under-edge onto the on-side
  • 19.3: Nathan Smith to Prince Yadav, 1 run, on a good length and at the stumps, Prince clouts without any timing and the ball drops well inh front of long-on
  • 19.2: Nathan Smith to Mayank Yadav, 1 run, a direct hit at the bowler's end and Mayank was stranded in the middle - stabbed one in front of point and called for a quick single, he started, stopped and then ran belatedly. Finn Allen had plenty of time to shy and he missed
  • 19.1: Nathan Smith to Mayank Yadav, no run, short of a good length and kicking onto the right-hander, hit high on Mayank's bat and drops down to the off-side
  • Nathan Smith [3.0-0-38-0] is back into the attack
  • 18.6: Matthew Fisher to Prince Yadav, FOUR, edged and four, short of a good length and just outside off - Prince pokes and gets a thick edge, sending it flying past the keeper's reach
  • 18.5: Matthew Fisher to Mayank Yadav, 1 run, short of a good length and just outside off - steered behind square on the off-side for a single
  • Mayank Yadav, right handed bat, comes to the crease
  • 18.4: Matthew Fisher to Tilak Varma, out Caught by Tim Seifert!! That's the end of Tilak Varma - on a good length and angling across the left-hander, Tilak swings across the line, gets a steepling top-edge, high and to the keeper's left. Tim Seifert called for the catch, settled under the Auckland lights and dives in the end to complete the catch. Tilak Varma c Tim Seifert b Matthew Fisher 35(35) [4s-1 6s-3]
  • Matthew Fisher to Tilak Varma, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
  • 18.3: Matthew Fisher to Tilak Varma, no run, tad fuller and wider of off - carved over wide cover and Tilak still can't find the gap

  • 18.1: Matthew Fisher to Prince Yadav, 1 run, on a good length and angling into the right-hander, clipped down to long leg for a single
  • Matthew Fisher [3.0-0-34-1] is back into the attack
  • 17.6: Adam Milne to Tilak Varma, no run, slower ball that's pushed across the left-hander, Tilak runs down the pitch, has a big swing and misses
  • 17.5: Adam Milne to Tilak Varma, no run, Milne pushes one full and wide of off, Tilak had backed away and lets it go
  • 17.4: Adam Milne to Tilak Varma, SIX, nicely played, full and at the stumps - Tilak shuffles across, bends down low, uses Milne's pace and then laps it over short fine for a maximum
