Commentary

  • Smriti Mandhana collects the trophy and hands it over to Jintimani Kalita. Niki Prasad joins her and they are all smiles. India's new captain is happy to stand at the side as the team pose for the photographs. A 3-0 cleansweep for India in the shortest format. The action shifts to Vadodara for the ODIs, which commences on Friday (October 23). Until next time, it's goodbye and good night from all of us..
  • Smriti Mandhana | India captain: [On the team's performance in this match and the series] The batting was very brilliant. Anushka to start with, Shafali, then Harman and I think everyone just played their part and it was really good to watch. And again in the field, bowlers did execute their plans. Maybe yes, some things we can work on. We'll take it back and work on it. [On rotating the batting order and whether the team's intent and execution worked as planned] Yeah, for sure. Middle order in the first match we could not get going, again top order as well. Then in the second match, they did not get an opportunity to bat. So it's always good to have some game time and always good to have some runs behind your back. [On the bowling line-up] Yeah, it is looking good for sure. But yeah, we're all looking in a way where dew is playing its part. Again we're going to have the next three ones going ahead, there's going to be a lot of dew till we approach the Champions Trophy. So kind of combination we need, and the bowlers, more the merrier. It's always good to have options. So yeah, I'm really happy and pleased with the way Niki, Shafali, everyone chipped in with the overs. [On taking the team's momentum into the ODI series] Yeah, good domination in the way we dominated all the three matches. That's something which we'll look to do even in the one-day series. That's something which we've been speaking about as a team. So hopefully we can do that in Baroda as well.
  • Shafali Verma | Player of the Series: Obviously, very happy towards the team if you're performing well. So really happy for that and winning the matches, and everything is going in our favor. So really happy for that. [On maintaining consistency and balancing the hard work required to sustain it] Of course, keep working hard in every day. As I said earlier, I have to keep working hard every day, think more about the game and just thinking to perform in every game. And yeah, I'm enjoying my innings and just trying to learn after every inning and just try to improve every inning by inning. [On developing her range of shots, particularly hitting the ball towards square leg rather than only towards midwicket] Well, yeah, I have worked for that front of the spinners. So before that I didn't hit that shot, but now I have worked on my footwork. So I think because of that footwork, I'm just timing the ball more well. So really happy about that footwork and just trying to improve day by day.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur | Player of the Match: [On what this knock meant to her] I enjoyed myself in the middle. This is what I'm here for. I just want to enjoy my batting and good that those runs came. [On her innings progression] Well, I think the first ball when I hit for a four, that time I realised it's a good pitch and bat was coming nicely to the ball and I think I got a lot of confidence from that shot and then I just thought, let me just, you know, keep going and let's see how it goes. [On the conscious development of her batting and the shots she worked on after the Asia Cup] Well, I think bat swing is something which is my key, and I just want to keep doing that, keep repeating that in the nets. Again, I just want to give credit to my batting coach, Himanshu bhaiya, who has always been working really hard and understood the kind of batting I can do. Every time when we met, when we spent time in the nets, he just wants me to keep feeling that same pressure in the nets so that when I'm playing the match, I should not feel any extra pressure, and I think his tactics, his thoughts worked really well. [On whether she feels pressure] I don't think there is any pressure anymore. Now, it's all about enjoying myself on the field, and yeah, that's what I want to do.
  • Josephine Nkomo | Zimbabwe captain: [Reflecting on the series and the lessons learned] A lot of learnings. I think there was a huge improvement. Today we saw Beloved Biza taking three wickets, scoring a 44, Sharne Mayers scoring a half-century and I thought the fielding was outstanding throughout the series. [On the team's fielding, bowling performance, and whether she was pleased with the bowlers as captain] I think we still have a lot to learn and quite a lot of things that we need to improve on. And hopefully going into the ODIs we'll get those things right. [On adjusting to the batting-friendly pitches, fast outfield and playing conditions] I thought we were a bit slow to adjust as bowlers, but like I said, going into the ODIs, I think we know the conditions a little bit better. [On getting similar batting tracks in Vadodara for the ODIs] Hopefully.
  • Amol Muzumdar | India's head coach: [On whether the team’s plans and execution went as expected] Absolutely. It's been an important series for us. And, just looking back at the series, there are a lot of plus points, a lot of positives to take out from this series. And yeah, we are happy about the result. Now we go off to Baroda. [Niki Prasad, the biggest positive from the series?] Yeah, the youngsters have added some fuel to the tank, for sure. Niki Prasad showed her class in the first game itself, and also Anushka showing some flashes today and in the first game as well. So I think there are a lot of positives, as I said, and not to forget Harman's innings as well. [Asked how he manages the challenge of having plenty of bowling options in the playing eleven] I leave it to the captain. [Team's approach going into the one-dayers] Look, we have always been talking about playing ruthless cricket and dominating cricket as far as any game is concerned, whether it is T20 or ODIs. We have always spoken about domination in the dressing room, and in the last 10 or probably 12 T20s, if you see, there's been a lot of domination on the field. So I guess whatever we are speaking in the dressing room and in the team meetings, they are trying to apply that on the field.

  • 22:16 Local Time, 16:46 GMT, 22:16 IST: All smiles in the Indian camp. Harmanpreet was emotional and was crying during the mid-innings interview but now she has a big smile alongside her colleagues. Biggest margin of victory at home for India in this format. A good start for Smriti Mandhana as permanent skipper. A good batting workout for Zimbabwe. Once again Mayers impressing with her muscular batting. She came out to open and after a first-ball duck for Kelis Ndhlovu, Mayers and Biza were the shining lights for their side. The others didn't contribute much and the result was never in doubt at any stage. As Nkomo mentioned many times on this tour, it's a good learning experience for Zimbabwe. Seven bowlers were used by India and Nandani Sharma the pick with a three-fer. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
  • 19.6: Nandani Sharma to Nomvelo Sibanda, 1 run, a direct-hit but Nomvelo Sibanda is in. It's a back of the hand slower-ball on a good length outside off, Nomvelo Sibanda cuts to Deepti at backward point and beats the direct-hit. Plonking the bat in. India clean-sweep Zimbabwe 3-0
  • Nomvelo Sibanda, left handed bat, comes to the crease
  • 19.5: Nandani Sharma to Loryn Phiri, out Caught by Prema Rawat!! Good catch running in by Prema at deep mid-wicket. She just manages to hang on as she clutches it on to her body. It's another back of the hand slower-ball and Loryn Phiri comes down the track to heave, off the bottom of the bat and looked to be falling in space. But Prema judged it well. Takes it with both hands. Loryn Phiri c Prema Rawat b Nandani Sharma 1(2)
  • Nandani Sharma to Loryn Phiri, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
  • 19.4: Nandani Sharma to Tendai Makusha, 1 run, another back of the hand slower-ball on a good length outside off, Tendai Makusha swings it to deep backward square-leg, doesn't carry to the fielder who is Kranti
  • Tendai Makusha, right handed bat, comes to the crease
  • 19.3: Nandani Sharma to Beloved Biza, out Bowled!! The back of the hand slower-ball gets Beloved Biza. Way too early as she comes down the track to loft and totally deceived. Misses and the top of middle-stump is found. Nandani Sharma smiles and does a gentle double fist-pump. Beloved Biza b Nandani Sharma 44(50) [4s-5]
  • Nandani Sharma to Beloved Biza, THATS OUT!! Bowled!!
